An honest review of Crossleader tires: who makes them, what the 7000 series covers from cars to rugged terrain trucks, real stocked sizes and prices, what the UTQG grades mean, and who these tires actually suit.
Table of contents

Crossleader turns up when you sort your tire size by price, usually a long way below the name you recognize. The fair question is what you give up for that. Here is what the brand actually is, which models cover which vehicles, and what the ratings on the sidewall really say.

Quick answer

Crossleader is a value brand from Qingdao Doublestar, a large Chinese tire manufacturer. Its 7000 series covers cars, SUVs and trucks from about $49 to $197, with UTQG grades of 500 A-A or 500 A-B and warranties of 45,000 to 55,000 miles plus road hazard coverage. They suit drivers who want new rubber at a low price.

Who makes Crossleader tires?

Crossleader is a brand of Qingdao Doublestar Tire, which lists it on its own website alongside Doublestar, Headway and Horizon. Doublestar is one of the larger Chinese manufacturers, and it became the largest shareholder in South Korea's Kumho Tire in 2018. Unlike several budget brands sold in the United States, the maker here is not a mystery, and that is worth something.

One caution about what you will read elsewhere. Several articles describe Crossleader as Doublestar's aramid reinforced, self sealing safety tire. That claim belongs to a passenger car launch the brand made overseas, and none of the 7000 series listings we stock state self sealing or aramid construction. Buy these as ordinary tires and judge them on the ratings below, not on a sealant feature your set may not have.

CH7000: the cheapest way into a new set

The CH7000 is the car line and the entry point to the range, starting near $49 for a 195/65R15. It covers 15 through 18 inch rims in the sizes that fit ordinary sedans and compacts, with H and V speed ratings and a 500 A-A grade across the board. Every size we list carries M+S branding and a 50,000 or 55,000 mile warranty. If you drive a Civic, a Corolla, an Elantra or similar and you need four tires today, this is the line that fits the budget. If the letters after your size are unfamiliar, our guide to tire speed ratings explains what they promise.

CU7000: the ultra high performance option

The CU7000 handles the large wheel fitments that get expensive fast in premium brands, covering 18 through 22 inch rims in ZR sizes with W speed ratings and mostly XL load construction. Grades are 500 A-A, the same as the CH7000, and prices run from about $72 to $124. A 275/50ZR22 at $124 is the clearest illustration of what this brand is for, because the equivalent premium tire in that size often costs a great deal more.

H/T 7000 and H/T 7100: the highway tires

Both H/T lines are built for SUVs and pickups that spend their lives on pavement. The 7000 covers 15 to 18 inch rims in P metric and LT sizes, including the 265/70R17 and 265/65R17 fitments common on half ton trucks. The 7100 is the newer pattern for larger wheels, running 17 through 22 inch, and it is where our deepest single stock sits in a 285/45R22. Both carry 500 A-B grades and 55,000 mile warranties. The B temperature grade rather than A is normal for a load carrying highway tire and is not a defect.

A/T 7000 and R/T 7000: off the pavement

The A/T 7000 is the all terrain step, sold in 10 ply LT sizes from 16 to 20 inch, including LT265/75R16 and 35X12.50R18LT, with 45,000 and 50,000 mile warranties. The R/T 7000 is the rugged terrain tire, a more open and aggressive pattern in 10 ply construction from 17 to 20 inch with a 45,000 mile warranty. The R/T is also the model people search for by name more than any other in this range, which tells you where its reputation sits. Load ratings on these are high, so read the load index before fitting them to a lighter vehicle. Our guide to tire load index covers what those numbers carry.

What the ratings on these tires actually mean

Crossleader tires carry standard UTQG grades, the system the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires on passenger tires. A grade like 500 A-A reads as treadwear, then traction, then temperature resistance. Treadwear of 500 puts this brand mid pack, which means average tread life rather than long life. Traction grades of A are a solid ordinary result, and these numbers come from standardized testing, so they are one of the few figures that compare honestly across brands. To read the rest of your sidewall, see our guide on reading tire size.

One point matters more than any of it for winter drivers. Much of this range carries M+S branding, and M+S is not the three peak mountain snowflake symbol. M+S describes a tread pattern, the snowflake describes measured performance in severe snow. If you drive in real winter conditions, treat these as all season tires and read our comparison of all season and winter tires before you decide.

Warranty and road hazard coverage

Nearly every Crossleader size we list bundles a treadwear warranty with road hazard coverage: 55,000 miles on most car and highway sizes, 50,000 on some, and 45,000 on the all terrain and rugged terrain lines. Road hazard is the part worth noticing, because it covers the damage that actually ends tires early, which is potholes, road debris and punctures outside the repairable area. Several premium brands charge extra for that protection. Coverage is stated on each listing, so confirm it for the exact size you are buying.

Where Crossleader makes sense, and where it does not

It makes sense if you need four tires now, the budget is real, and the alternative is stretching worn tires through another season. New rubber with full tread and a road hazard policy beats worn premium tires on a wet road every time. It makes particular sense on 20, 22 and 35 inch fitments, where the price gap against a premium brand is widest and where a set can otherwise run past a thousand dollars.

It makes less sense if you want independent test data, long tread life, or a severe snow rating. Published lab testing on this brand is thin next to the major names, a 500 treadwear grade points to average mileage, and none of the sizes we stock state a severe snow rating. Drivers in the snow belt will still need a separate winter set.

Key takeaways

  • Crossleader is a brand of Qingdao Doublestar, which also became Kumho Tire's largest shareholder in 2018.
  • Six families cover cars through rugged terrain trucks, from about $49 to $197 in stocked sizes.
  • UTQG grades of 500 A-A and 500 A-B mean average tread life with solid traction results.
  • Most sizes include a 45,000 to 55,000 mile warranty plus road hazard coverage.
  • M+S branding is not a severe snow rating, so winter drivers still need a dedicated winter tire.
  • The self sealing and aramid claims you may read about are not stated on the sizes we stock.

The verdict

Crossleader is a straightforward value brand with a named manufacturer behind it, which puts it ahead of the anonymous end of the budget market. The ratings are ordinary in the way ordinary is fine, the range is unusually wide for the price, and the bundled road hazard coverage is genuinely useful. What holds it back is the thin independent testing record, mid pack tread life, and the absence of any severe snow rated model. If you are replacing worn tires on a budget, especially on large wheels, it is a sound buy. Before you order anything, check what you have left with our guide on how to check tire tread.
