Gladiator is a value off-road and light truck brand whose real strength is size breadth: 147 distinct sizes in stock from 15 to 26 inch, including the flotation fitments lifted trucks actually run. Here is the lineup, the sizes available, and where the brand fits.
Table of contents

Gladiator is a brand you meet in the flotation sizes. If you have been pricing 35x12.50R20 or 33x12.50R18 for a lifted truck, it comes up well under the names that dominate the off-road forums, and the fair question is what that gap actually buys you. Here is the lineup, the sizes that are genuinely available, and where the brand fits.

Quick answer

Gladiator is a value off-road and light truck brand. Its strength is the X-Comp family in flotation sizes, mud terrain and all terrain, in the 17 to 24 inch fitments that lifted trucks actually run. It also builds a deep street performance line and an all-weather range, and it is priced a tier below the established off-road names.

Disclosure: New American Tires Hub is an independent tire retailer. We sell the Gladiator tires discussed on this page and we make money when you buy from us. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Gladiator or its distributor. The views below are our own, and we say where the brand falls short as well as where it does well.

The Gladiator lineup at a glance

Gladiator splits into four working families, and they aim at genuinely different vehicles.

FamilyBuilt forFitments we stock
X-Comp M/TMud terrain, serious off-road15 to 26 inch, flotation and LT
X-Comp A/TAll terrain, daily driven trucks17 to 22 inch, flotation and LT
X-Comp HPStreet performance15 to 21 inch, mostly ZR
Armor 4SAll-weather cars and vans15 to 20 inch, including commercial C sizes

Across the brand we hold 192 in-stock products covering 147 distinct sizes, from 15 inch up to 26 inch. That size breadth is the real argument for Gladiator: on the flotation fitments, plenty of brands simply do not make your size.

X-Comp M/T: the mud terrain

The M/T is the model the brand is built around and it is the deepest off-road stock we carry, running from 31x10.50R15 up to 40x13.50R20 and 37x13.50R24. Prices generally sit between roughly $260 and $570 depending on size, which is a meaningful step below the established mud terrain names in the same fitments.

It is a genuine mud terrain, with everything that implies. Aggressive tread, heavy construction, and the road noise and fuel penalty that come with both. If you want a mud or all-terrain tire in a passenger-metric or common LT size rather than a large flotation size, Cosmo's Mud Kicker M/T and El Tigre A/T are worth a look alongside it. If most of your miles are highway with occasional trail use, the M/T is more tire than you need and you will hear it every day.

X-Comp A/T: the one most truck owners should look at

The A/T is the better fit for a daily driven truck, and it is where the sizes people search for most often actually live. We hold 35x12.50R20, 35x12.50R18, 35x12.50R17, 33x12.50R20, 33x12.50R18 and 33x12.50R17, which covers the common lift-and-tire combinations without dropping to a road tire.

Pricing runs from roughly $205 to $420. Against the M/T it trades outright mud traction for quieter running and better manners on pavement, which is the right trade for most owners who are honest about their mileage split.

If your current set is down to the wear bars, here is what we hold across the three families that suit most buyers:

X-Comp HP: the street side

The HP is the volume seller in our catalogue by a wide margin, and it is a completely different tire from the off-road models that share the X-Comp name. It is a summer-biased performance tire in ZR-rated sizes like 245/35ZR20, 265/35ZR20 and 315/35ZR20, aimed at lowered trucks, SUVs on large wheels, and performance cars.

Prices generally run between roughly $120 and $260, which is where this line makes its case. Large-diameter performance rubber is expensive from the premium brands, and on a 20 or 21 inch wheel the saving is substantial.

One caution worth stating: a ZR-rated performance tire is a summer-biased tire. It is not an all-season and it is not a winter tire, whatever the tread pattern suggests.

Armor 4S: all-weather, and the van sizes

The Armor 4S is the all-weather range and it is the family most likely to fit an ordinary car. It covers common passenger sizes from 205/55R16 upward, generally between roughly $80 and $180, and it extends into commercial C-rated van fitments such as 265/65R16C and 195/75R16C.

The van sizes are worth calling out because they are genuinely hard to source. If you run a transit van or a light commercial vehicle, the C-rated sizes are a real reason to look here.

The QR trailer and commercial line, and what we actually hold

Gladiator also builds a QR series of trailer and commercial tires, including the QR40-ST, QR600, QR700 and QR900. These come up in searches regularly, so it is worth being direct about them.

We do not hold meaningful stock of the QR line. Across every QR model together we currently list eight products totalling around a dozen units, which means that for most sizes in that range we cannot supply you. We would rather say that than let you work through a review and find an empty shelf.

If you are shopping trailer or commercial tires, go to our Gladiator brand page to see exactly what is live today rather than relying on a model name, and read our trailer tire buying guide before choosing a load range, and check the trailer and commercial categories for the brands we do stock in depth in those fitments.

Who makes Gladiator tires?

Gladiator is a brand of American Pacific Industries (API Tire), a tire distributor headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona and founded in 1982, which also owns the Zenna, X Comp and Pegasus brands. Like most distributor-owned brands it does not publish its factories or a single country of manufacture. That is normal at this tier and it is not by itself a red flag, but it does mean the brand story is thinner than it would be for a manufacturer that owns its plants.

What can be verified is the product: the size, the load range, the ply rating, the ratings moulded into the sidewall, and the price. For a value off-road tire, those are the things that decide whether it suits you, and they are what the rest of this review is built on.

What the ratings tell you before you buy

Every tire legally sold in the United States meets the same federal safety standards, whatever it costs. A value brand is not an unsafe brand. What separates tiers is engineering depth and consistency: how predictably the tread wears, how the compound behaves when it is cold and wet, and how well the carcass holds up to repeated load.

Two specifics matter more than usual on this kind of tire. LT and flotation sizes are not passenger car tires, so they carry no UTQG grade at all, and comparing them to a passenger tire on treadwear numbers is comparing two things that were never measured the same way. And the load range, the ply rating, is not a marketing number. Match or exceed what your vehicle and your load actually require. If the numbers on your sidewall are not obvious, how to read your tire size walks through every part of the code.

Key takeaways

  • Gladiator's real strength is size breadth in flotation and LT fitments, 147 sizes in stock from 15 to 26 inch.
  • X-Comp A/T is the sensible pick for a daily driven truck. X-Comp M/T is the mud terrain, with the noise and fuel cost that implies.
  • X-Comp HP is a summer-biased performance tire that shares a name with the off-road models but is nothing like them.
  • Armor 4S covers all-weather passenger sizes and hard-to-find C-rated van fitments.
  • We do not hold meaningful stock of the QR trailer and commercial line. Check the brand page before planning around it.
  • LT and flotation sizes carry no UTQG grade, so treadwear numbers do not compare against passenger tires.

Where Gladiator makes sense, and where it does not

It makes sense if you run a lifted truck in a flotation size and the premium brands want a large multiple of the price, if you need a large-diameter performance tire without paying premium money, if you drive a van needing a C-rated size, or if your size is simply hard to find elsewhere.

It makes less sense if you want a documented manufacturer with published factories, if you cover very high annual mileage where a longer-wearing premium tire pays back, if you need a true winter tire, or if you are shopping the QR trailer line, where we cannot currently supply you.

Value tires that ship nationwide

Gladiator availability depends on your ZIP code, and some sizes ship only to part of the country. If the size you need is not available for delivery to you, these Ironman value tires ship from U.S. warehouses nationwide, for cars, crossovers and trucks:

The verdict

Gladiator earns its place on size availability more than on any single quality argument, and that is a legitimate reason to buy. If your truck runs a common LT or passenger-metric size rather than a 37 inch flotation, it is also worth comparing against the Armstrong Tru-Trac A/T and H/T lines, which carry a stated road hazard warranty. On a 35x12.50R20 or a 37x13.50R17, the choice is often between a value brand that has your size in stock and a premium brand that does not, and a correctly sized tire you can actually fit beats a better tire you cannot.

Buy the X-Comp A/T if your truck is daily driven, the M/T only if you genuinely go off pavement, and the Armor 4S if you are fitting an ordinary car or van. Check the load range against what you tow or carry before you order, because on this kind of tire that number matters more than the brand on the sidewall.
